About this petition.

In Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland landlords are registered to ensure the safety of the tenants in those properties as well as supporting communities where there are large numbers of buy-to-let investors. In England the vast majority of landlords are unlicensed. In an increasingly unregulated market, councils are unable to manage the ever-increasing buy-to-let investors. This leads to tenants living in buildings that crumble around them, and criminal landlords free to harass tenants.

We are calling on councils across the country to join us in lobbying the government to license all landlords in England, like they do in the rest of Britain. To protect public safety society does not allow someone drive without a licence, why should renting out property be any different? Children, vulnerable adults, the poorest and most needy in society, all need to be protected from exploitation and neglect by bad landlords.

Who we’re contacting.

The Rt Hon. Sajid Javid MP
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government

Alok Sharma MP
Minister of State for Housing and Planning

All councillors, MPs, MEPs and Metro Mayors to join us to lobby government for change.
